100 yard bow shot "competition".
Got a little inspiration for this from lefty and a fella from the guns n ammo thread.
Here are the rules, you have 5 consecutive shots to hit a target 10"inches in diamter at 100 yards with your bow. Pictures are always a nice addition. Ansolutely no calling bs on anyones photo's. Your post will be removed. So play nice. This is meant to be a "fun" challenge to ourselves. For those who dont have access to a spot to shoot out to 100 yards we will have to change up the rules. Any idea's are welcome. Best overall shooter or most improved, i will send a 25$ gift card. To your outdoor store of choice. Any suggestions on how to make this a little better are welcome. |
Great idea, I haven't shot my bow much all winter but should be possible to accomplish, 5 shot on a pie plate size target. Can't wait to see how small of a group some of those 3D archers can do. I bet it will be pretty small.

Good idea to get people shooting and having some fun! The picture of the group
I shot almost makes the grade but is around 12 inches or so. LC |
Just watched Kurt's 80 yard video, looks like there will be some serious shooters in this challenge, of which I will not be one! lol

Just a quick question as I was unclear on the rules . Must all 5 arrows hit the 10" circle or just 1 out of 5?

Time to use the "gopher arrows" to figure out my hold over as I have never shot at 100 yards. I did some at 75 and needed 14-16 inch hold over on top of my 60 yard pin (62 lbs at 29" and 415 gr arrows). I might need to do the "tooth pick taped to bottom of my sight" method. I will match Hydro's offer for a $25 gift card but it is going to the shooter with the most lost or destroyed arrows.... I may win my own prize. |
:D Here I will just post the 10" pie plate at 100 yards AFTER five arrows....and what it looks like...you can just add your name and cut out the middle man...ha ha ha!!!

I will save that to my desktop for future use. |
:D lol...Actually shooting at 100 is easier than most think...with practice...
Just as 50-60yds is...if you can shoot 20-30-40 yds consistantly Back in the day of slower bows I had 100 yds down pat with tip of arrow...now I may have to paint an outer dot on my Ugly Cookie...lol *Cheat Hint* on a calm day a small helim balloon and six feet of cord will give you an aim point...lol Im up for the challange, sounds like fun.... Perhaps a photo of the bow that the group is shot with would be cool too. Hunting bow or target set up.

This was my first attempt at 100 last summer. (Ranged at 99 yards)
I have a MBG Ascent and dialed it in and selected my tape ....only verified it at 70 yards as that is as far as I can shoot where I practice. At this fun shoot I dialed in at 99 yards and let her go....a little left but height was good!! http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...pswi8jzgas.jpg |
That bear has been pulled out at a few shoots and likely will be pulled out again! The first shoot they had it I got pretty luck and missed the tube by about 1.5-2 inches, that time it was at a completely unknown distance (no range finders allowed) and I guessed it at 110yards.....draining an arrow would have meant a brand new $15-20k side by side. So close yet so far!
It is fun to fling sticks at long distance. LC |

Feel free to post when you guys hit 1 out of 5 too. I went shooting today, i have my shots in a 10"inch circle at 60 yards... Not too sure i will be able to hit 100.:sHa_sarcasticlol: |

So I got out as far as 80 yards today. It took some guesstimates and luck not to lose an arrow. After about 7 round I figured out that the top of my level bubble is exactly 80 yards (stupid luck). But concentratng on the top of the level had my left/right going all over the place. 100 yards is going to be interesting and i am going to need alot more practice and maybe a new sight :thinking-006:

This is my sight set up. Hogg Father with custom head all 0.010" pins.

Do all five arrows have to be inside the 10" ring, or is just touching the 10" plate count?
I don't know if I even have five consecutive arrows that all weigh the same weight! So far my two best long range groups are 3 arrows inside a 2" circle at 80yds and 3 arrows inside a 3" circle at 100yds. Here's a thought for the guys who can't reach out to 100yd range, 1" per 10yds as a rule of thumb. This isn't exactly the same, but on the right track. When your shooting out to 100, not only will wind have a big role in where your arrow lands, but arrow weight will be more of a factor, consistent arrow weight. Sounds like fun, I won't be able to enter any time soon, I just played musical chairs with my sights after buying a new bow and I don't have any of my bows sighted in now. I have 21 pins to set up, it'll take a bit of tinkering. I'm looking forward to seeing the results of this contest as they unfold. A couple more questiosn though; How many times can you enter, and is it just the tightest 100yd group or is it every group inside a 10" circle? |
The way I understand to meet the criteria is you need to be within a 5 inch radius of your point of aim which equals a 10 inch "pie plate" circle with 5 consecutive shots.

good luck to anyone taking on this challenge I think I will pass maybe I will take some hale marrys just to see

Honestly, I think you should tighten that up to like 5" or 6" circle at 100yds or you might be sending out quite a few gift cards. |

We will all vote or something at the end of this. Say 5 people all hit the target with 5 arrows, we would then vote on who got the best grouping or something and they get the giftcard... I hope that makes a little more sense? Then brendans dad is offering up a gift card to for his criteria. |
Maybe an AO archery gathering weekend at a central location with a $25 gift card entry fee and a few different events is in order?
