I want to get a BMG .50 cal
I want to get a .50 cal but lots of the company's will not ship to Canada. What options do i have? It can be just a upper receiver because i have a Ar15 lower. Or should i spend the money and get a complete gun thats not restricted.

It won't be long before Rick (forum member; 'Alberta Tactical Rifle') sees this thread. You should be hearing from him soon ... '50 BMG' is one of his specialties! Here's the link to his website; http://albertatacticalrifle.com/ |
Can you get a .50 upper for an AR lower?
|
Last time I was thru Ft. St. John, (can't remember the name of the sporting good store for the life of me) he had an amazing deal on a .50 just to get rid of it.

I'm going to play a bit of Devils advocate here.
Unless you have your own private range, expect to find only a handful of certified ranges in Alberta that will allow you to use a 50BMG on the range. Something to consider expecially if your into target work. |
do u need a restricted lic to have a 50cal if not i have a lot of oped range
lol!! |

Are you saying you had no luck with Alberta Tactical Rifle?! [ http://albertatacticalrifle.com/ ] |
I'm pretty sure that Rick from ATR is in Florida right now, at the Shot Show.
I'm sure when he gets back he will answer your questions. Just bad timing for the question to come up. |
if you use one of those .50 cal uppers, on an AR lower receiver, would that not make it a Restricted weapon, since that is the serial numbered part?

wild west shooting center says they can get them. "starting at ONLY $5100!"

Answers There are several 50s that are available in Canada that are not restricted. Any of the 50 cal uppers that go on to the AR15 lower IS restricted. I am trying to solve that problem. The most common 50 in Canada is the Steyr (because any dealer can buy 1 and sell it which requires no talent or understanding that the 50 is a unique caliber) I build them custom and shoot them ALOT, (part of my addiction) Since 911 the US State Dept has banned the export of everything 50 cal, guns, parts, ammo and components, so this has really slimmed the playing field down as to what is available in Canada. Dick raises a valid point, in Alberta there are only 4 approved ranges for 50 cal and they are not really on the beaten path, so most of us either make friends with a farmer or own some property. I know many guys around town here go into the forest reserve, the problem is that it is hard to find places that are safe at real long distance, so please be careful. I think all we would need is the 1st accident and that would be all the feds need for another banning. Hunting in Alberta with a 50 IS legal provided 1 uses hunting type bullets, FMJs are not legal to hunt with regardless of the caliber. Most game here is not structural enough to expand a true hunting type bullet but we need to humour the C.O.s:D |
thanks for all you help guy.
