I’d look at fly fishing on the Bow river or regular fishing on a jet boat on the South Saskatchewan river. Regular fishing for lake trout on Lake Minnewanka in Banff might be an option also which would be super cool.

You’ll be able to find charters for those.

Flyfishing trip with Rocky Mountain Flyshop out of Olds, either a float trip or walk and wade or both. Great outfit, can not go wrong booking with them

Answers to Guided Fishing in Southern Alberta

There are lots of different types of fishing charters available for you to consider but I would suggest you do a specific google search for the area of interest. There are numerous guides that float the Bow River - all you have to do is search Bow River fly fishing. Not as many lake guides but targeting the Calgary area you might consider: https://fishingalberta.ca/.

There used to be a guide that worked the Banff and Canmore area, again a google search of Banff fishing will come up with the names.

Something a little more casual and no cost is the ACA Kids Can Catch program. Specific lakes are targeted and fishing hosts provide all of the knowledge and encouragement to get a youngster hooked on fishing. There was an event in Calgary last weekend for the Family Day weekend.

I am not a guide but an individual that likes to encourage youth to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. I would suggest a visit to the the AHEIA website to explore all sorts of activities provided through this great organization.

Hit up Mike Robertson.

He does guided spin fishing trips on the Bow. I've fished with him a couple of times and we caught a ton of rainbows and browns. He has a couple pike spots too where you are likely to get one over 10 pounds.

There is a guide company for Spray Lakes and would still have ice in April I would imagine, not sure of the name but I often see on facebook.

Sturgeon fishing can be different and exciting… Brent isn’t too far from Calgary… would be a good time …

You might be able to gift him the trip in April but most lakes are closed for fishing until May long weekend and the bite normally is better in June I would suggest picking up the fishing regulations that normally come out around May or look at the 2023 reg for dates that the lakes and rivers will be open

It might be ice in April but I bet the road is going to be a nightmare. It already is. When is covered in snow is better than if it was paved since the snow covers all the potholes but when it melts, as I said, is bad especially from Canmore to Grassi lakes even for a pickup truck.
