For $0.14 more a box you can buy regular price Score ammo from Wholesale Sports. Which in my experience patterns better, is a cleaner shell and has better knockdown power and they are Camadian made.

If you got the right connection you can get it for less at $110 a case :)

speaking of Canadian, they also have challenger steel on sale. $12.49 for a box of 3inch, 1 1/8 oz

Curious for info on Challenger shells from those who have hunted with it.

Well shoot. Its deals like this that make living 3 hours from cabelas a real bummer.

I have taken a cheap Winchester steel shell apart. The shot looks like slag from the foundry floor. Buy Score or Challenger or Kent on sale for round shot.
The Winchester Drylok that I cut open had round shot too.

Nicely put together shell. Much more consistent in shot size, unlike the the win xperts where it seems the shotmaker tipped over hahaha. Shot about a case so far and it seems great for the price, no misfires or cycling issues. However, the win were on sale for $12 last november, so i bought enough for this season and the next couple.

i dont go by what the shot looks like i go by its ability to kill birds at a reasonable price and i find for that it works perfect. i dont doubt that other shells are better, more round, more consistent, etc but in the real world the winchester patterns fine, kills birds and is readily available.

* Hint** If I liked the win stuff as much as you do then I will make sure to be around for the first week of sept. Will make a quick stop at the store before evening duck shoot tomorrow..

Would love to shoot Canadian, only problem with challenger, score and Kent are that they use Cheddite primers and they are a hard primer, some guns for example my Rizzini punches the primers and burns the firing pins, I also know of 2 more Rizzini'z, 2 browning 725's, a Krieghoff and a perazzi that do the same, I shoot 4 - 5 thousand rounds a year of target loads and would love to shoot Canadian made ammo but I can't, I shoot Winchester super target and federal top gun without any issues whatsoever, so just a word of advise before you run out and buy 4 or 5 cases of ammo try them to make sure your gun can shoot them.

I can't think of anything that I would ever use T for, unless I had to use steel to shoot coyotes.

I have heard of this, and I use Challengers in several shotguns, but I have never witnessed it for myself.

i love them, i have shot thousands of them, and seen way more shot all without pierced primers.

i wonder if the firing pins in question aren't out of spec

I have shot about 10,000 Challenger shells. Never once pierced primer.

What dram equivalent were you purchasing? The 24g load is pretty anemic because they intended it to be. The 3dr Handicap is a hammer.

What ammunition are you referring to? Are you referring to target loads? And #8 is not a great choice for hunting most upland birds, especially at longer ranges. At closer ranges they work okay, if you can place the pattern over the head/neck area.

Exactly, the milder target loads produce less velocity in order to reduce recoil, so I wouldn't expect them to be as effective as a hunting load as a higher velocity load.

I tried them last year (BB's) and really liked them. Reasonable recoil and good knockdown power.
