Pounding fence posts
Is it too early to pound in posts in Red Deer area? Would be using a hydraulic post pounder.

Around edmonton I heard there was only 8 to 10 inches of frost only. Give it a try.

The local fencer in the area east of Red Deer has done a few posts but says there is frozen ground in sheltered areas and north sides of brush and hills. He won't start big projects for a week or two.

Good to go. Tiller worked fine garden yesterday. Should be able to sink those posts into ground quickly. Good luck post pounder.

We put in about 400m and no problems. Just South and West of RD. With the plus 20's weather coming even in the sheltered areas should be good by next week.

Thanks for the responses all. Maybe we will give 'er a try this weekend.

We always used a crowbar to create a pilot hole and then added water--the water made a huge difference.
Good luck |

I was up at my pasture fixing fence yesterday.
The ground by Kikino is still frozen and there is still lots of snow up there. And water...OMG, there is water running everywhere. The wettest I have seen it up there for a very long time. |
It is still frozen like iron about 15 inches down at our range property west of Saskatoon.
Spring is just getting started around here. The leaf buds are still tight. The Prairie Crocus in the old yellow grass are beautiful however. |
Tried to get to cabin on trapline today north of Edson. Still 3 feet of snow in bush, you could be alittle early as frost takes a while to thaw out of ground unless on south sunny side of a hill. You will at least get half of them pounded then need to rent post pounder for a second day in June.

Pounded 8'ers over by Hanna on Monday. All sides of trees. No frost.

Frosty
West of Crossfield today, moved some round bales and ground was still frozen solid under them.
A few guys have tried cultivating and stopped. |
