Still waiting to see someone catch a brown. Stocked 1000 rainbows, 1000 brookies and 800 browns in the fall...Still yet to see the browns.
Sorry if this has been asked, but the perch are ok to be eaten? I mean there's nothing that runs into that lake?

Totally safe to eat. It is a put and take lake for rainbow trout. I have eaten lots of perch.

Only issue is they are 5-8 inches long. Cleaning the longer ones is what I do. I fillet. Others bake or fry whole.

Want 100 tonight?

Rainbows don't like the spines on the back. They grab the perch then spit them out. If you cut the dorsal fin off the back of a dead perch...rainbows are happy to eat them.
Rainbows probably eat the young of the year perch though

Cut the dorsal fin off rainbows will eat a perch. Browns and brookies are more able to tackle perch spines.

Do they eat the perch without them being top fed? I get the water for my dugout from SMRID which comes through Rattlesnake Lake which has perch. So I have a ton of 6 inch perch.

when you sent me home with 99 perch that one day, it took me 6 hours to clean, but it was well worth it.

No. rainbows will not eat perch. They are too spiny. Brown trout and brook trout could eat smaller ones.

I wonder

Caught only 100 perch yesterday but also caught over 50 trout plus 5 lake chub

After removing 1500 perch from 14 square foot area... have we made a dent in the perch population in this small area allowing trout to get to the hook or did the stocking school just move in and scare off the perch. Some bows were up to 16 inch and brookies up to 11 inches.

Will find out today I am figuring.

Do you guys not honour fish limits down there, I am pretty sure the provincial limit on Perch is 15!!
