Guys:
I have this fella frequenting my hunting area. I have pulled my tag which took 6 years of priority. What do you think he will end up scoring come November? Shooter or no?

Smokinyotes 07-29-2015 04:46 PM

I wouldn't waste a P6 tags on a small 3x4, but that's me. If you like him go for it.

rmk800 07-29-2015 04:48 PM

isn't he gonna be 5x5 after he splits and we count whatever brow tine he may have?

Jamie 07-29-2015 04:50 PM

You looking for a meat buck on a P6.. Go ahead.

North of Owlseye 07-29-2015 04:50 PM

Pass. There must be a better deer in your zone somewhere.

reddeerhunter 07-29-2015 04:50 PM

No

Narrow, nope. 3x4 nope. But if it blows your hair back, do it.
Come mid august, 140 class I say. MAX.

elkhunter1234 07-29-2015 04:51 PM

He need a few more years.

Sharpie 07-29-2015 04:55 PM

Get him out of the gene pool. Would be the only reason id kill him, but i never even shot one on my P6 last year, passed up a couple mid 180's

Don K 07-29-2015 05:45 PM

That's an ugly buck... 140" on a good day in November. Like another said , if he blows your hair back. I'd rather eat tag soup...

husky7mm 07-29-2015 06:22 PM

Just a young deer, he wont be much bigger than what you see in the cam pics. Not more than 1/2 mth to grow and that will mostly be just the tips of the tines. The basic frames are developed already, so not this year. Also if you want a buck that scores well the best way to achieve that is with tine lenghth. If you want a big buck for the wall you have to be OK with the possibility of tag soup. It can be a challenge.

We typically answer our own questions by asking a group of strangers what they would do :) When you find a trophy you will know it and share the field pictures when successful.

Best to you this season.

He's done growing for the year,
I'd pass

bigbuck 07-29-2015 08:12 PM

If you want a meat buck totally, pull the trigger! But I am guessing since you waited till priority 6 to pull your tag you want a trophy. Everyones opinion is different on what a trophy is, for me not even close. But if you like him, shoot!

WildCanuck 07-29-2015 08:38 PM

Definite pass, you'll see better in a p6 zone come the rut

No he's not going to split, by the end of july antlers are pretty much 90% grown already.

X2, that one may bust 125.

J.B. 07-29-2015 08:56 PM

Im assuming your looking for a good buck on a p6 tag...so no not a shooter in my books...

rem338win 07-29-2015 09:04 PM

Thats not what youre looking for.

Brink 07-29-2015 09:10 PM

I'm not sure what zone you are in but if there are any fields with flowering canola in them, scout them now evenings and mornings. Mulie bucks should be in them pretty heavy right now, you will get an idea of the bucks around, I am sure there are some much better then that one, but if he tickles your fancy kill him.

elkivory 07-29-2015 09:12 PM

P6, I would pass too must be a bigger one around somewhere, put the hours in and you'll find the one your after :)

Keep tabs on him, make a good meat buck if luck fails on finding a big one.

Depends what day of the season it is, first or last!

bighorn1 07-30-2015 01:44 AM

As a meat buck only, no headgear there worthy of priority points.

Fishhunter 07-30-2015 05:59 AM

The only thing that matters is if you think he's a good deer.if he gets your heart pumping then take him. They are all trophys, if it's your first deer I'd say go for it.

mbogo 07-30-2015 07:28 AM

Looks like a young buck to me

Roughneck Country 07-30-2015 07:59 AM

pass if you are looking for a trophy rack, good meat buck

elkhunter11 07-30-2015 08:30 AM

I wouldn't be the slightest bit tempted, especially with a P6.

3blade 07-30-2015 09:14 AM

general tag or last day, sure. First mulie buck... Maybe.

Otherwise no. You can probably do better, even for a meat buck.

Fowl91 07-30-2015 10:13 AM

I would pass, that buck has a lot of growing to do.

Syms1919 07-30-2015 05:41 PM

I wouldn't bother he needs at least 2 more years, people like shooting these type of deer because they have a not bad frame and look kinda big. If you can't find anything bigger then him shoot a 3x3 instead
