Gull lake

Well I thought I would start my own thread....

We may be planning a trip up to gull from Calgary ....

First off were is the best place to put a boat in?

I know there is pike and walleyes .. I am thinking crank baits..

But is there perch? Or whites? Can u troll for them or do you have to still fish them?

Thanks in advance

I've never seen a walleye when I was fishing there but there's alot of whites, perch, and pike and burbout!

harrydude 06-13-2012 07:09 PM

Oh..... Doh.....

So we're is best place to put in?

quiteeye 06-13-2012 07:14 PM

Sylvan an Gull lake are easily the two best and most under estimated lakes in central Ab... Nothing but 6lbr's in Gull

Lots of good launchs on gull either aspen beach on south side or meridian on the north stay away from wilsons beach its pretty crappy launch in my opinion. Lots of pike in gull if you fish for them you can catch perch and walleye never seen a white or burb caught in the summer

I put in at the Legion Sunset Beach campground last week. 16 foot tin on a trailer. It was like threading a needle due to the condition of the launch but was not too bad. No charge by the campground supervisor although a sign does say for registered campers only. The dude manning the Parkland wants $10 and basically said he don't like the small boats launching on a busy weekend because the small ones get swamped by the big ones :confused: I thought launches like that are no wake zones??

Good luck

Sounds like it might be an ok lake to go to.... But if it is a hassle to load and launch then I will go else were.....

Just want to get out ... But the south resivors are very muddy with all the recent rain..

Does gull get this way?

And do unneeded a 4 x 4 to launch?...

RapStaff 06-13-2012 07:46 PM

Pretty sure there's a decent launch at morningside northwest corner of the lake.
I've personally never launched there so maybe someone from down reddeer way can confirm the condition.

I guess it depends n the size of your rig. If your talking a small alum then you don't need 4x4 at Sunset.

harrydude 06-13-2012 07:53 PM

I have an older 16 foot tri haul....

harrydude 06-13-2012 07:54 PM

Launch

Good place to launch is at the NE corner of the lake. From Calgary turn west at the Blackfalds overpass, turn north on the Woodynock road, you will then cross hwy 12 and head north on the Lincoln road, follow the signs to Meridian beach and Raymond Shores. You will turn west towards the lake at the Meadowbrook church.

Is it busy there?

And how do ou target the whites?

harrydude 06-14-2012 09:23 PM

Is Gull muddy?

Anyone been this week?

seahawkfisher 06-14-2012 09:52 PM

if its calm, i'd try flyfishing for the whites; go for a similar wire worm presentation you might try thru the ice.
good luck

I was there 2 weeks ago and it was pretty clear for the water being so high.
