Just curious how many kilowatt hours you burn through on a given month...

I work out of town and rent an acreage with another guy and we are burning on average over 2000 KWH per month! I read online that an average convenience store burns 2200 KWH...

The power company just installed a second meter on the line to confirm if the first one is operating correctly, but they say its pretty rare that the meter is screwed and if it is working correctly its going to cost me another 150 bux for their time...

We are out of the house for almost 14 hrs of the day, maybe do 4 loads of laundry a month for bedding and towels and do the rest at our own houses, no electric heat, there are 2 fridges and a mid size freezer (2 of the 3 are brand new) every bulb in this place is an energy saver type... I just don't get it..

There is a well pump and a pretty high tech water softener system on the house, and central air conditioning but it is on a programmable thermostat and does not run during the day and only runs in the evenings set @ 21...

I just cant figure out how we could be chewing through that kind of power...

The power company also informed me that in a week if the meters read within 3% they have no further obligation to investigate this matter further... Will a clamp on amp meter tell me anything or is there any way I can trace what is burning all the juice?

550 kWh in a city house with A/C. Are you/roommate growing drugs in the basement? jk

We had a bill for 3800 at our house, they changed our meter, and wound up paying us back for 1500kwh

If you could temporarily shut off everything except for one outlet ,record your KWHrs then run a 1000 watt space heater for one hour , then check the meter's reading again , that will tell you if you are accurate, of course you could just do it for 15 minutes then multiply by 4.
just a thought.

also to trace what is sucking the power shut off all breakers and have some one watch the meter as you flip each one on one by one

Yep just got my enmax bill today, 1700sq ft two storey, with central air, temp set at 71. 565 kWh, actual, not estimate.

WE used 772 KWH last month and our tv and computer is on about 15hrs a day.That was also with some ac use.

I'm at most 1000kwh in Dec.

I'm usually around the 900kwh or less range even with central A/C, big screen plasmas, two refrigerators, fair amount of laundry, laptop on all day and everything else.

I average 450-600kwh

525ish here too. No AC.

Our lowest month in the last year was around 900kwh. Our highest month was around 1550 kwh.

I have three reptile enclosures, running between 50 and 250 watts of power an hour for twelve hours a day. I have an aquarium that is using as much as 800 watts an hour on and off (the heaters turn on and off as required). My three AeroGardens use a total of 234 watts an hour over the course of (I think) 16 hours a day.

We have three desktop computer systems that run 24/7, in addition to three notebook computers. We have two Wii systems, two PlayStations systems, and an Xbox that are constantly on. We have a huge assortment of other electronic devices (including an arcade machine), and I'm sure there must be a couple dozen chargers plugged into walls. We have a big halogen flood lamp in the back yard that is on almost all night (the motion sensor is very sensitive).

I do at least one load laundry almost every day of the week (I'm on my sixth load so far today), and our laundry equipment is old. Our fridge is old. We leave the stove light on all night.

We are energy pigs.

just wondering with all extras put on your bill, taking the amount of your bill and dividing it by the kwh how much its costing per kwh.

example $275 bill divided by 789 kwh is 34.9 cents per kwh

wow..the last 3 months here i am averaging close to 1500 kwh..small 1000 sq ft home with full basement,but i do have the plasma tv on for alot of the day..cant see that doing a ton of harm!

My last bill was 509kwh. We have the air conditioner set at 23 and have 3 laptops 4 tvs 2 refrigerators and I would say an average of 5 loads of laundry per week.

Last month...1100KWH

Max...the last year...1500KWH

2600 sq. Ft Home with A/C

2 adults and 2 kids...Laundry everyday and dishwasher going..2 computers always on and TV on pretty much 10-13 hours a day

Well WTF.. I called the wife to see what our typical bill at home was and it was well under a thousand... and she is notorious for leaving the AC at 19 along with every light in the house on...

ATCO installed a second meter this afternoon so we will see how that goes. I flipped every breaker off that I possibly could and the meter was still spinning.

Tomorrow I'm going to flip the mains and try to narrow this down further breaker by breaker.

464 kwh here for the month.
1100 sq ft home with no AC.

582 kWh for Apr - May (actual) for an 1800 sq ft.

No AC but I open the beer fridge frequently. :)

Folks running grow-ops are fairly notorious for tapping into the lines of others. As this is a seldom occupied rental property in a rural area, I'd suggest involving the RCMP in this situation. Good luck.

Wow, jip...that sounds like an awful lot. Definitely something that needs to be checked into. I use about 170-180 kWh/month...but that's in a 500 sq ft apartment, so possibly not a fair comparison.

1100 sq. ft. house on acreage our consumption in June was 1921 kwh. Jan was 3165 kwh.

I got to thinking that this morning myself. I second this comment.
That much power disappearing, I'd say that's it.

Not sure how much kw but my bill is between 35 and 40 bucks each month. Apartmant in Camrose.

2200 sq ft. 822 kw. Family of four, dishwasher, washer and dryer, daily. Two large plasma TV's approximately 10 hours a day, 2 computers fridge and freezer and all the other common stuff.

1900sqft with out ac- 575 to 600/month with ac 650 to 750/month winter time we run a small electric heater as well in the basement- 800 to 900/month
