Got out for a few hours yesterday and an hour today. 10 eye's On mostly plastics, 4 fish on spinners. Best fish was 23 inches.

Appletree 05-13-2008 08:31 AM

Despite throwing a number of different lures, all our walleye were caught on spinners.

BBJTKLE&FISHINGADVENTURES 05-13-2008 11:53 AM

hummmmmmmmm I may just have to try that .

-JR- 05-13-2008 05:26 PM

What kind of spinners are we talking about and what colours

SteveY66 05-13-2008 05:33 PM

i caught them all on a slip bobber and minnow.

-JR- 05-13-2008 05:39 PM

Which end of the river were you fish ,east of edmonton or central or west .
I heard its very muddy!

FisherPotch 05-13-2008 09:18 PM

Ya the river is very turbid. I've been down from EDM all the way to south of smokey lake. Bright pink spinner and black fury have produced. With the turbidity pickeral rigs are starting to be the ticket. Very bright plastics too. You purdy much gota bonk em on the head with it cuz there is no clarity. Lots of casts and cover lots of water, slowly bouncing of bottom if you try plastics. Add sum weight to a spinner so you can get some distance and cover water, get as deep as possible without hitn bottom. This is whats been producing for us. Worms or jumbos on the pickeral rigs. Tight lines.

BBJTKLE&FISHINGADVENTURES 05-14-2008 10:00 PM

holy **** balls you gotta be kidding thats insane. But would be alot of fun. I heard that theres a low spot similar to where legends golf course is range road 540 but near LAmont east of lamont low spot slow flowing and its got some big friggen sturgeon in there , I heard about it ,I guess from maybe the fishin hole or something maybe fishing show I cant remember but yeah . I think ill take a drive one day.

-JR- 05-15-2008 05:31 AM

I would like to try it also ,with a camper on ,as they don't start bitting till after mid night.
Never been there yet
Just looked on google map..Looks like a nice bridge on hwy 38 and rangeroad 570
Very narrow river upsteam ,then down stream of the bridge its wide.
Maybe in june I will try it !

You can do that if you like, but sturgeon bite well in the morning, mid day, and evening, and even though i did catch a few after dark, the mid day to evening usually was the best. Dew worms near the bottom are the ticket. I have caught sturgeon in 5 feet of water, and 15 feet of water. they are much more prevelant throughout the NSR than some would have you believe. That said, the push is still on to have the NSR sturgeon put on the endangered species list. HAs anyone here ever wondered why the walleye limit is 0 from Drayton Valley all the way to the Saskatchewan border ? That was based on 1....yes 1 creel count from a test net within Edmonton city limmits, in a heavilly pressured location a couple years ago. Despite the fact that a huge portion of the NSR still boasts a phenominal number of walleye, fisheries still tries to play the collapsed story. Just thought I'd give you guys the heads up on that. Next up will probably be to close fishing for Goldeye in the river....cause there can't be many of them left in the river either.... Right ?
