Lake Koocanusa

We recently bought a cabin in Montana on Lake Koocanusa, and I was wondering if the fishing was any good?

awesome for Kokanee. Apparently good lakers in there as well. Below the libby dam is where I believe the world record rainbow was caught.

Wasn't the world record rainbow caught in Lake Definebaker in Saskatchewan?

Any tips. Does a guy need down riggers, or anything special?

The reservoir can be deep so be prepared. SOme guys use downriggers. I prefer fishing the lower parts of the Elk River (Fernie and downstream) and the delta area that is classified as the lake, but still very much a river. Nice Kokanee, Rainbow, Cuts, Dollies, and Rockies. Good area for turkey and elk as well.

Sounds like a good place to go on a venture.

Congrats on the new cabin! I envy you.

So what it run a guy to go do some fishing in montana licence wise these days?

seahawkfisher 02-14-2009 06:03 PM

i like to use a deep6 on one line and a 2oz sinker on another; caught the biggest squawfish i've ever seen outta there.
cheers
