Wabamun

Hi all.

I have a buddy who wants to get out ice fishing with his son the first weekend of March, but doesn’t want to go as far as Slave (where I normally go). I’ve never fished Wabamun before and wondered if I could get some suggestions for easy access and consistent fish. We aren’t looking for monsters or a secret spot (unless you want to PM [emoji6]) but it would be great to have drive on access with the truck to make things easier with the young kids. I did a search on the forum and came up with accessing just out from the main pier and fishing slightly west of there. Is this a decent spot for consistent action?

Appreciate any suggestions, either as posts or PMs. Thanks!

fallis is good spot or around seba beach, tone of walleye, should catch around 10-15 per hour

I was just out on the Saturday over the family day weekend. Lake is full of fish, sadly most of them are dink walleye but still makes for a fun day nonetheless. Not sure about spots but the ticket seemed to be about 15 FOW. We had a hard time keeping them off our hooks. All small walleye, few small pike and did manage to land a very nice 10-12 lb pike which fought hard and was really nice to see for that lake. Jig and a minnow.

Thanks guys. How is access at the moment? Able to get on with a 4x4 or is it ATV/sled access only?

Also curious about access for tomorrow. Wondering if I should take the truck or if the Crosstrek will get around. Thanks!

I’ll post a report back when I’m done tomorrow!

You shouldn't need a sled, although would be ideal, always is. I made it around in my truck with 4x4 no sweat. Few heaves to watch out for but shoud be easyt o spot and avoid.

I know at main launch in town, there is easy access with lots of packed down trails. 4x4 would be no problem.
