Four hunting buddies, 2 dogs (1 really great - the Springer), great - tough cover (south Medicine Hat area), good weather, some relatively good shooting - all wild roosters PRICELESS! It is shaping up to be the best pheasant season in a lifetime of hunting (40+ years). Get out and enjoy it while you can boys!

Nice Looking birds. Those areas don't look like the swamps and ditches we were hunting but it does looks like you have some big areas to cover...

Yup, that's a wirehair. But for my money, if you want a real pheasant dog go for a Springer. My brother has always had Springers and they are tougher and have way more energy, with TONS of heart. Granted they are difficult to keep up to, when on a runner. The Springer we hunted with is 4x the dog compared to the wirehair - but it just could be the dog.

Nice job on the birds. In regards to the dogs - not to say anything bad about anyones dogs, but to say that Springers are 4x the dog than GWP's on the basis of a singular one to one comparison is selling both breeds short. A good GWP will be as much dog as anyones dog.

I enjoy hunting behind a hard wired Springer, but I will never trade my pointing dogs for a flushing dog in the Uplands. Others will see it the other way around.
