I will stick to the scotty's and keep the extra coin in my pocket for more fishing trips and still catch some good eyes.
I am sure there is better rod holders out there but I don't think it is necessary in Alberta for them.
Just my opinion but I have never had or seen a problem with them. All products these days seem to be mass produced and will have a flaw here and there. So far they have been solid for me.
