I always zero my irons and scopes IF they can be.
Note the vernier guage on this M37 smallbore rifle.
Once it is sighted in, the scale is then moved to zero so one can quickly go from 50 to 100, and in the old days, to 200 yards.
These days it's meters and 50 meters , they don't even shoot at 100 meters anymore in ISU!

Even the turrets on the 1920's vintage hunting scope can be zeroedonce the rifle is sighted in.
