A good portion of conservative voters base their vote strictly off their desire to be allowed to own a certain categories of firearms.
Another good portion base it off what the elected party feels about abortion rights (even though it wont change the fact that abortions will happen regardless). Not to mention the many other single issue voters that a certain party loves to take advantage of.
So I don't think putting importance on the ability to have a life outside work and get out and see the world more is all that extreme. And nobody said it was the only issue, its definitely one worth consideration however.
