Interesting... I've upland hunted for some time but want to get into big game and have been considering caliber. Mainly deer and antelope, but I want the capability to take the occasional elk and moose as well (so basically I want it all LOL) Shot a buddy's 30-06 and 270. Both OK but I thought the 30-06 a BIT harsh recoil wise. I can handle it, but why? Was thinking maybe .280 as perfect, but now you have me thinking .308. Not as flat shooting as the .280 for those long antelope shots, but I'm wondering how much less flat.

Funny a number of people mention the savage. I just found out my dad actually used to hunt when I was little. I never knew that. He had a Savage 99 lever action in .308. Sold it 40 years ago around Edmonton. Perhaps one of you guys are using it!
