Extra Fast has a very quick tip but just the tip bends easily.

Fast is a bit slower in the tip but bends a bit deeper into the rod.

Medium, Slow, bend progressively deeper into the blank.

A deeper bend in the rod is helpful to maintain line tension with big head shakes, fishing with braid, using cranks, etc.

On the opposite end is extra fast. Perfect for finesse techniques when fish are subtlety picking up the bait lightly.
