Personally I would just use 2 ammo boxes with stickies to the inside of the lid showing each row with different loads, that is how I do mine. You can also look at your brass more carefully once you get home for any danger signals as well. As long as you put them back in the same order as you shot them.

The purpose of the colors is to see where each load impacts the target, tracking the shots as the charge increases. (the color rubs off on the target) Another method would be to set up a go-pro or similar, to video the impacts. I don't have such a device, so I'm trying the color method.
