Are your oars balanced? Once the oars are balanced I found that the weight of the oars makes little difference to the effort to row. We've used 3 sets of oars on our drift boat; fibreglass, wood, and CF without much changed. Once the pivot point is set for your preferred leverage I will balance the oars so they just drop into the water with your hands resting on them. Ankle weights make good adjustable counterweights.
