Not sure about Anticosti - there were a couple of wells drilled there as I recall and they came up dust.
There is however a pretty big basin in the middle of the Gulf of St. Lawrence called the Old Harry prospect - it was estimated to hold a significant amount of O&G. However Corridor (Now Headwaters (HWX)) could not get a permit to drill as it overlaps four provincial boundaries. Quebec blocked them in 1999 and NB and PEI kicked up all kinds of dust aided and abetted by all of the usual suspects...
What there is in the East is about 80Ts proven/probable of natural gas on shore in New Brunswick. Sadly the anti-fraccers raised such a noise about it that it got blocked. It would seem that government in NB would rather receive equalisation than actually produce any wealth themselves
