If you practice catch and release, I simply just don't see why you would use multiple treble barbed hooks. You would want to release a live fish not a dead or injured one.

You would be incorrect
In most of BCs lakes you can use treble hooks and barbs. The single barbless is mostly rivers/streams. You are also allowed multiple hooks but they must be on the same lure
BC also has a strange rule that if you are solo in a boat you are allowed to have 2 lines
I could get into all kinds of C&R myths regarding hooks and practices but it’s not worth the effort. What I can tell you is one single hook can actually be far more lethal if it is not size appropriate especially when bait is involved. Things are more complicated than treble vs single
All that aside I would rather see Alberta cut it back to one line per angler ice or no ice.
