The reason for putting sturgeon on catch and release fishing only was a safety measure until we knew more about them and their numbers. If sufficiently funded, in a few years, this monitoring program will have the a much better grasp of sturgeon populations, and how to manage them into the future.

There has been a tagging program that started almost 20 years ago in the early 90's... Alot of the legwork being done by volunteers...
