It would have been a lot harder on the fish to stick a scale it its mouth and dangle it until you get a steady reading.
Throwing a tape on it and taking a couple quick measurements would be a lot better for the health of the fish.
Not sure why a difference of a couple pounds is enough to raise a fuss.
