I took mandatory hunter training in the 70s. The instructor didn't warn us about squibs or barrel obstructions.... It was only when taking PAL instruction that I learned about the hazards of an obstructed barrel.

From what I've seen in these rural parts, most of today's young hunters are safer than we were at their age, a few decades ago. The training has definitely gotten better.
