hmm interesting thread so far. i currently started with a berkley power pole for my first sturgeon rod and then i got a shimano triton down rigger rod thats med/heavy works great but casting with a shimano corsair is kinda difficult. my next sturgeon rod i got two years ago but have not used it yet is the ugly stick big game heavy action. at the same time i also bought another shakespear power rod just for giggles, i think the power rod will not do very well but think the ugly stick will. if you are sturgeon fishing in alberta i think an ugly stick heavy action would suffice but if you are going for the monster ones then not sure.
