I'm sure my neighbours think I'm crazy. I go out in the yard and lay out a 5 gallon pail lid on the grass and then practice casting to hit it. Once I can do it consistently I will reposition it so the wind is in a different direction, or I need to cast side arm around a tree, or control my backcast so I don't hang up on something. You can start with something larger (like a hula hoop) and then step it smaller as you gain confidence. The ultimate goal is to be able to accurately cast to specific spots no matter where the wind is, or what is around you.

Plus, it's a good way to spend some time out of the house on a nice spring day when you don't have quite enough time to hit a river or lake.
