I myself have had people in a vehicle drive up to where I have walked out on the lake (only 8" of ice) roll down their window and ask how thick the ice is. Just be respectful of others on the lake, if you drive out on the ice, stay away from other people who are on foot, it's just common sense and respect. There's lots of lake for everyone, spread out a bit, that goes for the whole season, don't crowd people and if you want to talk, park 50 yards away and walk, you will find people way more receptive.
