Yep, sulfur ruins whisky.
As for Arran, they put out some nice malts. I still have the tail end of a bottle of an Amarone wine finish (very pale peach color, tasty), and a bottle of the Exciseman , #3 in their Smuggler's Series...nice whisky. I put one away for 'some day' as well.
