They had permission to be there and were not trespassing, it was some kind of charity ride or something. Unfortunately if a landowner allows permission he potentially could be held responsible if something happens to someone on his property and is far more liable to be sued successfully than to be sued by a trespasser who isn't allowed on and is not supposed to be there at all.
