are representing 'the people' though....the kind of people who vote for them. And they know we won't vote for them even if they don't pass these stupid useless wasteful laws. So they plainly don't care, regardless of how many petitions we sign, or how outraged we are.
It's just more virtue signaling that isn't meant to really accomplish anything (they
know this will have zero effect on gang violence and crimes related to the drug trade, don't think they 'just need to be educated' and 'look at the studies'...they don't care!). It will be at the expense of 'the people' who don't matter, for the emotional well being of those who Want To Make A Difference and will continue to vote for them, so it's a Win. It validates their whole existence and sense of moral superiority. It's all about doing whatever you need to do to get re-elected, it's not about substance. God knows the Liberals have proven they have no substance, particularly with our current PM and Cabinet because it's 2015.
