X how ever many it is. I carry a Finnlight 30-06 that is light to carry and reasonably short with a 22 =/- barrel. It kills close up, far away and anywhere in between that killing might need done.
As far as open sights shooting through heavy bush with big bullets, that myth has been proven false on numerous occasions. A person is much better off with a good optic so you can thread the needle if need be. Those firing at running game in thick bush should take up grouse hunting with a shotgun over dogs so they can understand how unlikely a good result is with a rifle in hand.
