My wife is a can crasher and our kids ride jumpers, barrel race, gymkhana, etc and I've showed a few ranch horses, team rope a little and packed some, so we should be able to give you a reasonable appraisal of this horse.
I would disregard about 90% of the advice on this thread. No sense in paying $6-800 for a pre-purchase exam until you know what the horse rides like.
If you go to look at a horse and it's already tied to the fence, saddled and has a sweat on, keep looking.
