I just did a google search "white-tail research Alberta" and as I suspected there doesn't seem to be any going on or really any that came up.
Some years ago F&W was gathering lots of info from deer killed at camp Wainwright by hunters. Bill Wishart was a wildlife Bio with F&W at the time. And in those days F&W actually did some research.
Val Geist used to hunt deer at camp Wainwright and I suspect he did enough research there to assure he would have venison during the winter.
