Back before 1990 and CNN's instant rise to power, fame and ratings from their coverage on the Gulf War, this used to be just called winter.

Nowadays, the media feels the need to invent catch phrases like "polar vortex" and such, just so they can stay one step ahead of the competition and get the highest ratings. I miss the days when news was reported, not created....
