I agree with SNS. That's how I have my 30-06 set up as well.

Most of my shots are inside of 200 yards which means it'll hit right on the cross hairs or a tiny bit high. I don't adjust for it. Anything out to about 300 yards should be about 6 to 8 inches low. If you're aiming behind the shoulder or somewhere very close to that you'll still be in the vitals or very near even if you're cross hairs are set to behind the shoulder. I aim at just below spine for longer shots and never had a problem.

All depends on conditions and bullet too of course. This is assuming factory ammo and ideal conditions.
