If you looking to get into fly fishing, I would consider whitefish as a target. Where you live there are lots of Reservoirs filled with them, Lake Newell is loaded. If you do a search in the fishing and fly fishing sections of this board there are a few recent threads on how to fish them.
Make sure to get some grasshopper patterns for the river, on a windy day during grasshopper season, it is a laugh a minute.
