Head down to the OFF Fly Shop off of Southland Dr. They've helped me out a lot. I picked up a Echo fly rod earlier this year. Not a very well known brand but they have good quality stuff for reasonable prices (So they say). Love my Carbon XL so far. I'd recommend a 6 weight rod....maybe a 7 if you are hard into streaming but a 6 has the versatility you need if you ever want to try some smaller rivers.

As far as reels are concerned just make sure it matches your rod size. Since you are just starting a cheap reel will be OK. Should only have to spend around $100 for the reel.
