I saw this on a Shooting USA episode I believe. They tested 3 different types of rounds for self defense in the home, slugs, buck shot, and 7 1/2 shot. All three were shot through frames made of 2x4 and drywall that were used to simulate the walls in your home. They were setup 8-10' apart, and then each round was shot through them. The slug penetrated all three and kept going. The buck shot went through 2 walls, and was stopped by the third. The bird shot went through one wall, and was stopped by the second. All three made almost identical holes in the first wall. They said at close range like in a home invasion, all three were lethal, but the bird shot was the only one not likely to kill someone in another room...
