I agree entirely that people who leave keys in a running vehicle are asking for it to be stolen.

However there seems to be an insane amount of vehicles stolen daily all over Alberta. I am part of a Facebook group called "Alberta Wide Stolen vehicles". There is a constant stream of trucks & car of all makes being ripped off from peoples houses and work. It is sickening. Often there is a horse trailer or cargo trailer attached to the truck.

99% of these vehicles are stolen without a key in the ignition. Thieves are going above what the average Joe can do to secure a vehicle. It seems that even key chipped vehicles are not immune. I've heard of people putting battery disconnect switches and all sorts of gadgets. This is still not deterring thieves.

Check out the Facebook group "Alberta Wide Stolen Vehicles" and you will be astonished.
