Based on the pictures, the buck appears to be in excellent health. I think he simply has excessively large pedicles.

I don't think the antlers are actually growing yet, that is likely just the usual post shedding scabbing and the initial growth of the ‘antlerogenic periosteum’. Of course I could be owing you a beer if we bet on this.

Very cool and unique deer Antler1, please share any more pics of this guy as he progresses this winter/spring.
