It is most likely a spot tail shiner. At the angle that you are holding it, there appears to be a black spot on the tail, which is characteristic of spot tail shiners.

I'd recommend that all serious anglers should invest in a Fish of Alberta book. It contains great paintings and descriptions. It also shows you the rough ranges that the fish are found in.
