Why not get one of each? I have a CZ 22mag and a Savage 22LR, next spring I plan on getting a 17 HMR. All my gopher shooting situations should be covered.
I guess not everyone can justify this though.
For the amount of money you want to spend I would say get a Savage with good glass.
