Here is an interesting story.

I sent away for a Hastings rifled, 12 ga. barrel. I got it and a note from Customs to pay some "duty" on it.

I had trouble fitting the barrel to my Rem. 1100 so I called Hastings (in Kansas) and they said it was best to send the whole gun down to them so I did.

A long time later I contacted Hastings and they said they had not received the gun. I got Canada Post to do a "Trace" on it and they could not locate it.

So i sent a note to Customs and explained the situation and they wanted a copy of the postal trace and I would not have to pay the duty on a barrel I didn't have.

Then one day I get a parcel and it is the gun, return to sender, it had been in the post office in Kansas and no one came from Hastings to pick it up.

I send it back down Insured and registered and such.

Next I get a note from Police in Calgary wanting my FAC (in those days) because I was importing a firearm.

I explain that I had owned the shotgun in Canada and sent it down for repair and it was only the barrel that was imported. They said the FAC was required for importing the barrel (which by then had been in and out of the country a few time).

Sent them the FAC and got the gun and paper work home in a few weeks. No contact from Customs this time.

Moral of the story is I guess that when you deal with Government there is likely to be some "inconsistency". Or SNAFU as they say in the military.
