Pound a finishing nail near the top of the surveyors stake about 6 inches from the top. Pound another one six inches below that barely sticks out. I used victor #1 that have a hole on the bottom of the trap to hang on the bottom nail and I put a small chunk of carrot on the top nail. Then a drop of my muskrat lure at the top of the stake. I push it in the mud so the carrot is about 2-3 inches above water and the trap should be just under the water. I run high success catches and mostly on hind feet. They drown real quick and are not easy to see for trap thieves. You can put 5 or 10 of them in a small pond all 3 feet apart and you don't have to waste time looking for that special spot to put a trap. To me it is simple and effective and I can carry 100 sets in my truck and put them out in no time at all.
