This is pretty much how I look at it, which is why I don't understand why people make such a big deal about it. Part of my problem may have been my line last year as well. I spooled my marmish with Vanish and got wicked coils coming off of it. Could be why I lost interest so quick!
That being said, I'll probably give it another shot with some decent mono early this season before I start getting into the big ol' pike
