I think braid is better in all respects until it becomes a hassle to deal with it freezing to your rod and reel as it holds water (I can't find the one that doesn't). I use braid on everything for the summer and light winter setup, but switched to mono on a heavier ice rods as I was punching a lot of holes outside the tent. If somebody found a braid that doesn't hog water, please share.
