I have had experience with crossbows for several years but have only had three. One was the Excalibur Phoenix. It was not very accurate but sufficient. Then three years ago I got the Excalibur 380 Matrix and I really like it. It is 6 inches narrower than the previous & because I walk a lot in the bush that was important to me. It is as well very accurate. However you will not likely be able to caulk it with the rope. I had to buy the winch caulker to do it but no big deal.
Usually can pick these up used for less than a grand plus the extras. You will as well need the special rope to pull the limbs back to adjust the string tension as it needs to be in a specific spot & readjust every so often. As well you should carry extra stings with you. The 380 comes with a dry fire preventer. I hated it so a couple of screws & off it came. I as well did not like my quiver mounted on the bow so I carry it in my backpack. It takes a few yrs to figure it all out.
