t you didn't say what you've been shooting.
While the 308 is a widely accepted calibre I must be the dissenting opinion. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with a 308, or trying to rain on anyone's parade, but if you've been shooting/hunting in the 243/270/300mag. family you'll be dissapointed.
Few yrs ago I got a blr 308 in a horsetrade. Being used to hunting with fast flat trajectories the 308 felt like I was lobbing rocks.
If you're moving up from a 30-30 you'll think you're in heaven. It's all relative.
That being said the 308 will do what you want a rifle to do with very good success.
