I don't know if grass carp grow that big in frigid Alberta (if it indeed is a grass carp). According to Wiki they can reach 40 pounds, but most fish in Alberta grow more slowly compared to fish of the same species in warmer locations.
And yes, I think it is a grass carp.
Roach aren't native to Alberta; they're native to Europe and Asia. I'm thinking the only way it could be a roach is if someone illegally introduced it (obviously).
